FuSa-ready means the platform design, diagnostic mechanisms, and supporting evidence are structured to support the customer’s functional safety lifecycle. Final hazard analysis, system integration, validation, and product certification remain the responsibility of the OEM/equipment manufacturer based on the actual application. 

Advantech can support application-specific alignment with standards and derived requirements such as IEC 61508, ISO 13849, and ISO 3691-4. The applicable standards, target safety levels, and service scope should be confirmed at the early stage of the project. 

Through DMS and system integration capabilities, Advantech can evaluate customization requirements across the carrier board, I/O, mechanical design, thermal design, power supply, firmware, safety MCU, and external safety controllers.

Q1: Does FMEDA cover the customer’s complete system?

FMEDA typically focuses on Advantech’s platform or the defined customization scope. If the analysis needs to cover the customer’s sensors, actuators, control logic, and overall safety functions, the system boundaries, input data, responsibilities, and validation methods must be defined separately.

Q2: What FuSa documents and analyses can Advantech provide?

Depending on the project scope, Advantech can provide Safety Manuals, Safety Block Diagrams, product-scope/partial FMEDA, and engineering data such as FIT, SFF, and DC. We can also support HARA, Safety Concept, and SIL/PL gap analysis.

Q3: Are Functional Safety and Cybersecurity the same thing?

No. Functional Safety focuses on preventing unacceptable risks caused by system failures, while Cybersecurity focuses on protecting against malicious attacks and safeguarding information assets. For connected autonomous systems, the two can influence each other, but they require separate objectives, analyses, and evidence.
